I read the article STEM Students Create Winning Invention. This article was all about students from Streamwood High School and on how they built a small generator that could power a small light. Sixteen students competed in this contest and won the state competition. Now they are going to compete for the 10 national finalists slots and they have a chance to win up to $200,000.
The students at this school created a small generator which stands at 2 feet tall, and it can power a safety light. Over all this generator could solve an economical problem by helping poorly lit neighborhoods. According to the article the students seem to enjoy this as one kid states, "It's like a real-life experience," said senior Andrea Greter, 17, of Streamwood. "We're actually finding a problem and fixing it. We're working to make something real. (Engineering) can solve so many problems." The way the school lets students solve problems and find better outcomes for issues and helps them solve daily and life issues is a big deal. I think that this is a great ideal in the article it says that they were able to install these into homeless shelters and at churches with poor lighting and it is a great way to give to the community.

The article "Is Genius Born or Can it be learned?" was all about what a genius is and can you create someone to become a genius or if they are born that way. There are many aspects in a genius. For example personality traits do matter. Simonton states that geniuses tend to be, "open to experience, introverted, hostile, driven, and ambitious." In the article it says the geniuses are hard to discern and not just for the young either. I can apply this information I learned by being more open minded and ambitious with things and more driven in learning new things.
These blog posts are all answers to my English teacher's questions. My English teacher likes us to keep her updated on our progress and what we have accomplished so far on our projects.
Ken talked about how no kid gets left behind in education and I think he is right on how education systems need to see what kids can do. Schools need to let kids get a range of different subjects and have more creativity on what they like to do. Genius hour does this for us students. Genius allows us students to use our creativity and curiosity. As Ken Robinson says students need to achieve the activity and not just do it. I agree with his views on the teaching and learning of teachers. Also I agree with on how Ken says tests should not be the dominant culture of education. When Ken delivered his presentation he engaged the audience and made the laugh. He kept them alive and made it not boring. Ken was very organized and gave his talk very well with pros and cons.
This article talks about the people's different definitions of geniuses. Being intelligent and creative are two different things. Being a genius is all about being productive and not reproductive. Geniuses look at questions productively and looks at problems in many different ways rather in just one way. Geniuses display their thoughts visibly and show the information is various ways. They also produce, make novel combinations and have many other strategies that they use in helping them solve problems and come up with a solution. By reading this article it has made me think about using different techniques and strategies to teach my peers about physical activity. I will keep these strategies in mind while I am doing my project and try to combine them in with my project to make it more efficient.

In the article 'Genius Hour': What kids can learn from failure it is about how so many kids love genius hour and how it has helped them do something for the community. It is getting kids to learn on their own and become lifelong learners. Genius hour includes regular one-on-one conferences, biweekly goal-setting and self-evaluation. When completed they get to present their projects to the class and show what they had accomplished. By reading this article I have realized that this takes time management and dedication for genius hour. I know that in the end you feel rewarded for what you have accomplished. I want to accomplish a workout plan for younger kids to teach them why it is so important to take care of their body. My partner and I will be making a fun workout program. We will go into one of the younger classes and take them into the gym and teach them our program for an hour long period once or twice a week . We want the kids to have fun but also get in shape. My partner and I will teach the kids why it is important to eat healthy and get physically active on a daily basis.
